Hook, Line and Sinker Basics

The designation system used in fish hook sizing is as follows:

  • Large hooks increase in size as the number increases (i.e. 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, etc.)
  • Small hooks decrease in size as the number increases (i.e. 1, 2, 3, etc.)

Here’s a rough guide to which hooks to use for which type of fish:
