Techniques

  • Typically fish by casting and retrieving a plug, spoon, spinnerbait, jig, plastic worm or live bait.
  • Bass generally hang out at the bottom, or near underwater cover (e.g. fallen log or submerged boulders).
  • Look for water about 70°F.
  • Generally retrieve slowly, near or on the bottom.
  • Boat fishing preferred (i.e. inflatable, dingy, row boat, etc.). Shore fishing possible.

Tackle & Equipment

Here are some possibilities:

  • Spinning equipment: 6-7 foot light to medium action spinning rod, open-faced reel with 8 to 12 lb monofilament line.
  • Spin casting equipment: 5-6 foot pistol-grip, light to medium rod, closed-face spinning reel with 8 to 12 lb monofilament line.
  • Bait casting equipment: 5-6 foot pistol-grip, light to medium rod, bait casting reel with level-wind feature, star drag and 8 to 12 lb monofilament line.
